Classes are limited to 9 participants.

Should there be an overbooking, a selection will take place (applicants will be asked to give a sample of their playing; passive participation is possible). The teachers will decide on active participation. A combination of courses is possible, depending on availability of places.


VOCAL INTERPRETATION ~ Kai Wessel

This course will concentrate primarily on the Italian Solo Cantata and the vocal work of J.S. Bach. Students are invited to bring arias, duets, ensemble music and the corresponding recitativos from oratorios, motets and operas. Please bring, if possible, historical editions like Kalmus or Barenreiter, or facsimile.

Counter tenor Kai Wessel is one of the leading young artists in his voice register. He won several prizes and performed with important conductors of early music such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Ton Koopman, William Christie, Philippe Herreweghe, Jordi Savall, Gustav Leonhardt, Reinhard Goebel, Martin Haselböck. He is a sought-after guest artist at some of the most important opera houses in Europe.


VOICE EDUCATION ~ Ute von Garczynski

The renowned singing teacher Prof. Ute von Garczynski (Music University Lübeck) will work in close co-operation with Kai Wessel, offering additional training in technique and vocalisation with a holistic approach (posture, body-attitude and breathing).

Prof. von Garczynski studied with Erna Berger, Clara Ebers and Erna Schlüter in Hamburg.

She made her debut at Städtische Bühnen Heidelberg as Marie (Wozzek) and performed on renowned European stages as an opera and concert singer. She has been teaching at the Music University Lübeck since 1983.


BAROQUE VIOLIN ~ Annegret Siedel

Music for violin from the German and Italian Baroque period.

Participants are invited to bring their own repertoire. Lecture "Italian Diminutions" Ways of improvisation and grace-note for strings with sound examples.

Annegret Siedel studied violin with Ingrid Seifert and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. She teaches Baroque Violin at international Master Classes and leads a class at the Hamburg Conservatory. She performs throughout Europe, USA and Japan, she recorded several CDs and made radio productions. In 1995 she founded the Ensemble Bell’Arte Salzburg.


VIOLONCELLO ~ Balázs Máté (July 21st – 25th)

This course is open also to students with a modern instrument. Participants should choose some works out of the cello repertoire from 1600 – 1800.

We suggest to prepare at least three movements from a Bach Suite, and one Vivaldi or Frescobaldi concerto.

Balázs Máté is one of the leading cellists for baroque music and he is a sought-after chamber musician and a leading cellist in baroque orchestras under the direction of renowned masters such as Marc Minkowski, Jordi Savall, Martin Haselböck and others.

He is solo cellist of the Wiener Akademie orchestra and leads an intensive concert life. He recently recorded the Bach Suites for cello solo.


FLUTE ~ Christian Gurtner (July 21st – 25th)

This course is open to both, baroque and modern flautists. There will be period instruments at the course to try out: instruments made by Jan de Winne and a recently developed wood flute (Böhm system) by Yamaha.

Participants should prepare works at their own choice, and at least one out from the following suggestions:

G.Ph. Telemann: Solo fantasies and duos for flute

Meniker
Christian Gurtner studied flute in Linz and Vienna. Since 1981, he devotes his attention to the baroque and classical traverse flute, and performs as a soloist as well as first flautist in renowned ensembles such as Wiener Akademie, Orchestre des Champs Elysées (Dir. Philippe Herreweghe). As a soloist, he made his debut at the Wiener Musikverein with the Mozart concertos. He recorded several CD’s for Novalis.


FORTEPIANO ~ Alexei Lubimov (July 22nd – 23rd)

This intensive workshop is designed for pianists wanting to start or to deepen their knowledge on a fortepiano. Mr. Lubimov will work primarily on Mozart’s Fantasie c Minor (K 475) and the sonata in C minor K 457. Other works from the period are welcome (not later than Beethoven’s op. 27).

One or two students will get the opportunity to participate actively at the public session concert talk on July 23rd.

Students who are interested in fortepiano may continue working with Zvi Meniker.

Meniker
Alexei Lubimov belongs to the most sought-after concert pianists specialised on historical instruments. He is professor for piano and fortepiano at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He performs in recitals and concerts around the world, with important orchestras and conductors.

Meniker
Harpsichordist, organist and fortepianist Zvi Meniker was born in Moscow and raised in Israel. He received diplomas with distinction from the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Zurich Academy of Music, where he studied with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Johann Sonnleitner, before moving on to the USA to study with Malcolm Bilson at Cornell University.

Zvi Meniker commands a wide repertoire on his three instruments ranging from late medieval works to 20th-century compositions. He has also won numerous awards at international competitions. Zvi Meniker is a regular faculty member at the annual Early Music Workshop in Jerusalem and a professor at the Hannover Conservatory.

Organ students get the possibility to work with two teachers on different repertoire. You may attend one or both classes.

Kei Koito is an internationally renowned concert organist and professor at the Conservatoire de Lausanne, where she teaches a virtuoso class. She is founder and head of the Festival Bach and the Concours International de Bach de Lausanne. She is known as a specialist for Bach and Early Music and has recorded a series of CDs on different historical instruments. She regularly plays in concerts throughout Europe, America and Asia and is member of various juries. She is a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Students may bring works from Franz Liszt, Julius Reubke, Max Reger, Franz Schmidt and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Lectures will complete the instrumental tuition.

Gailit
Michael Gailit studied in Vienna piano with Hilde Langer-Rühl and Alexander Jenner, and organ with Herbert Tachezi. He got both, concert and pedagogical diploma in both instruments. He is Main Organist at Vienna’s St. Augustin, leads an organ class at the Vienna Conservatory and teaches piano at the Music University. He performs internationally in organ and piano recitals and orchestra concerts. He recorded several CDs and appeared in radio and TV productions. He leads masterclasses especially for Bach and German Romanticism.
